Thank you for visiting my site!   My name is Kathie Kania, and I have been drawing since I could hold a crayon.  Through grade school and high school, I have annoyed many teachers by drawing when I was supposed to be doing other things.  Most rewarding for me and my friends were great cartoons of teachers, the humor of which was lost, on most.

My husband and daughters have had to develop a sturdy sense of humor, since present-day cartoons are of THEM.  But loving portraits, as well.

While I've worked as an illustrator, most of my work has been portraiture over the last 40 years.  I believe I have done about 300 plus, working in oils and pastels.  I have been blessed to win some shows and awards, and my training has been through the helpful instruction of Maryetta Ellis, as well as Joseph Plavcan. I have had my artwork and cartoons published in various places, including Guideposts magazine, for whom I also have written several articles.

When my dear mother went to be with our Lord in 2015, I had a tidal wave of nostalgia and began doing some paintings of Ripley, NY, my childhood home.  Too sad.  So I began painting  memories of the 1960's, when I moved to Erie, PA and thought I'd die of excitement.

The paintings on this site represent my feelings about places I went and things I did in beautiful, colorful Erie.  My hope is that they immerse you in the memory-flavors of those haunting places,  unforgettable music, food, friends and craziness of the sixties.

My book, "Buggin State", contains 54 color images on quality, glossy paper.  It is available at City Gallery and also Werner Books.  A few of the newer paintings are not in the book.    Thank you for visiting my site, I hope it enriches your memories of Old Erie.    Blessings, Kathie Kania
